I was a member of an interdisciplinary team of 28 engineering students which competed with 110 teams across the nation to build the most innovative robots. We were the semi-finalists of the ABU National Robocon 2016. I was involved in the mechanical design and fabrication of the semi-finalist robot
What is Robocon?
Doordarshan organizes the national Robocon event every year.
In the competition, robots compete to complete a task within a set period of time.
The rule-book is released by the host country a year prior to the actual 3-day event.
The best engineering institutes across the country work round the year to compete with each other for the honor of representing India at the international competition.
The contest aims to help advance engineering technologies in the country.

Our Design
Here's an animation which gives an overview of our design:
Salient features:
Only fully automatic robot in the event
4 wheel mecanum drive
Fastest pole climbing mechanism
Aluminum frame
3-D printed turbine for energy storage
My Contribution
This being my first year in the team, I assisted the senior members in the fabrication of the pole climbing mechanism.
Made numerous trips to the laser-cutting, milling and turning centers to collect the processed components and thus gained first hand experience of the fabrication techniques.
Converted SOLIDWORKS part files into 2-D drawings for components to be laser-cut.
Prepared drawings of components to be milled and turned.
